The National Kidney Registry Announces its 50th Microsite Participating Center

Today the National Kidney Registry announced a significant milestone in its ongoing efforts to help kidney patients find a living kidney donor. With the addition of UMass Memorial Medical Center, 50 transplant centers nationwide now participate in the NKR’s microsite program.

The microsite program provides free websites and coaching to transplant patients seeking a living donor to increase their chances of achieving a living donor transplant.

Launched in February 2019, the microsite program has now achieved a 20% success rate, meaning that 20% of patients who activate a microsite receive a living donor transplant within 12 months. To date, more than 360 microsite patients have received a living donor transplant.

“Microsites are a crucial tool for people seeking a living kidney donor,” said Samantha Hil, a living kidney donor transplant recipient and the NKR’s Microsite Product Manager. “When you need a kidney transplant, telling your story to as many people as possible dramatically increases your chances of finding a living donor. A personalized microsite gives patients a way to tell their story and share their need for a kidney with thousands of people using their unique web address and free business cards.”

The microsite program is supported by seven donor search coaches who are available to all patients who activate a microsite. Donor search coaches are experts at running successful donor search campaigns, either for themselves or someone else.

About FindAKidney.org

Living kidney donor transplants last longer than deceased donor transplants, yet of the 18,000 annual kidney transplants, only 6,000 are from living donors. FindAKidney.org aims to end that imbalance by giving kidney patients the tools and information they need to find a living donor.
